The Day of your Test!
So when the day of your test arrives, here are some last minute checks!
-Where is your Licence? You’d be amazed how many people misplace it.
-Fuel – Is there enough fuel in your car?
-Lights – Check all signal and brake lights are working. Your test will be cancelled if not working. Headlights not working will not result in test being cancelled.
-Have you water/vape/cigarettes (if that’s your thing!) people often have one before the test and water is useful for during the test.
-Let someone else drive to test centre and park there. A nervous parent/partner is the worst thing to have if you are driving. Let them do it and you relax, maybe listen to music.
-Arrive 15 minutes before the test, but for the love of God, don’t fret if it’s 5 or 10 minutes before. If you get delayed, and arrive slightly late, just knock on Tester door and let them know you’ve arrived and apologise (if you wish).
-Take your time answering questions/road signs. If you stumble or get 1 or 2 wrong, it’s ok. They will often assist you and you can get 1 or 2 wrong without getting a mark.
-During the test, if nervous, have a breathing routine to help you relax. (Choose one that suits you, in advance of the test – email btdrivingsligo@gmail.com for some suggestions I send my pupils.)
-It’s ok to chat to yourself in the test and it’s also ok to ask the tester to repeat the instructions.
-If you are overwhelmed, then at the next stoppage (ie. before a manoeuvre), feel free to tell the tester, you need 10-15 seconds to compose yourself
-Don’t self analyse, don’t live in a mistake! Move on and focus on the next piece of road. You can analyse after.
-NEVER GIVE UP – No matter how bad you think it’s going, keep positive and optimistic til the end.
I hope these are a help and be sure to check out my online video courses in advance of the test!
